Basic Course Overview:
This six-week course is for beginners and advanced students. Students will be doing watercolor or acrylic
studies, painting in oil or acrylics and working out color compositions before starting. You will learn
to put a portfolio of your studies and work together.
Since there have been a lot of requests for a classical portrait class,
you may bring a portrait you
would like to finish (or start) and we will begin by working on facial features, correct skin tones and
achieving a likeness.
Please sign up early to ensure that you bring the correct supplies.

Tuesdays: September 15, 22, 29, October 6, 13, 20;
9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Wednesdays: September
16, 23, 30, October 7, 14, 21; 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM; 6:30 PM to

Saturday Portrait Class:

Weekly Session Descriptions:
Week One: Wow! This is exciting!
We will be working again with pouring paint. We had some wonderful results and I thought we would take a step up !!!
This is a great way to really get a painting started and finished in a hurry.
I will also demonstrate how to make the surface of your canvas rough to hold the paint.
This is a fun class. This is good for all types of paint.
Week Two: We will finish a painting,
crackle the surface or
add objects to change and update an old painting
Week Three: We will be going on a
Plein Air painting trip. (More details to follow.)
Weeks Four, Five and Six: Are in the planning stages based on the classes

Beginning Basketry: Course Description: Learn the art of basket making. Students will learn the basics of how to weave a simple basket with a lid and a traditional
ribbed gathering basket. Course will include discussion regarding tools, supplies, terminology and safety procedures. Techniques for dyeing
reed, use of ‘green/recycled/repurposed’ materials and other materials used in the weaving process will also be explored. Classes are held
weekly. Six two-hour sessions.

Collage: Course Description: Did you know that Picasso and Braque are credited with ‘inventing’ collage? Collage comes from the French word ‘coller’
which means ‘to glue.’ Explore the endless possibilities for creating in the medium of collage. On a simple canvas create your own collage by
applying layers of tissue, paste, paint and other materials. Enjoy the freedom to actively participate in your own creative process with virtually
no limitations placed on choices with regard to color, form, texture, technique and basic design. Classes are held weekly. Six two-hour
sessions

Pottery: Course Description: Wheel Throwing: Beginning & Beyond Experience ‘clay magic!’ Want to try it? Classes will include wheel throwing
basics, trimming, preparing pots to be fired and glazing techniques. Experienced students will have an opportunity to explore surface design,
lids and handles and specific forms of interest to them. All levels of experience welcome.
Open Studio time for enrolled students on Fridays from 2-5.

Hand Knitting:
Course Description: Hand knitting for beginners What’s easy to learn, convenient to carry around and work on, (while waiting on kids, dentist,
etc) with the end result being a beautiful hand made garment for you, family or friends? After taking this beginners knitting course, you will be
able to cast on, knit stocking stitch and bind off. You will learn how to change colors, increase and decrease stitches; read patterns and, most
importantly, learn how to correct mistakes! Expect to complete a hat, bag or scarf by the end of the session!

Scrap Booking:
Course Description: Learn how to save one’s story by learning scrap booking the right way. This introductory course will cover the importance
of preserving family stories, history and heritage. In addition to learning how to use quality products that will endure for generations, students
will learn the steps for prioritizing and organizing photos and other memorabilia. Included is an introduction to four ways to save one’s story; 1)
traditional scrap booking, 2) digital scrap booking, 3) picfolio, and 4) kits. The importance of journaling and journaling techniques will also be
covered. By the completion of this course students will know how to get further information, materials, instruction, personal assistance and
support.

Fine Art & Design
Animation: Course Description: Learn the basics of animation. We will focus mostly on the Japanese animation style, though American comics will be
briefly touched on. We will be working with graphite techniques in addition to pen and ink. Some terminology and history of the Japanese
animation style will also be covered in order to make understanding of the style complete. Supplies will be provided, though students may bring
their own materials if they wish.
